Last October I wrote a 600-word "spooky" story entitled "Second Sight"  for a local writing contest.  As has been the case eight previous times, it won second prize.  Frustrating.  My favorite pieces, however, are my poems.  Here is my best.

I plan to use this page as a place to organize the writing I do, both personally and professionally. The tabs above will take you to my poetry, book reviews, movie reviews, and--from long ago--study guides to two novels that I frequently taught when I was a
high school literature teacher: The Bell Jar (by Sylvia Plath) and Brideshead Revisited (by Evelyn Waugh).

You can also visit my blog, With Extra Olives, which will include musings on food, drink, and the "good life."

This page will grow quite gradually as I improve my web design and blogging skills.  Check back often to see the updates.

I love movies almost as much as I love literature. Recently I sawThe Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies, but the film that has impressed me the most this past year was Boyhood, which I hope wins every Oscar possible.

My all-time favorite book is Moby Dick, and my favorite author is Jane Austen.  But I have had two amazing reading experiences recently: All the Light We Cannot See, and The Seamstress.
